WML2020: Date Night

More than ten years on from the release of Date Night, it’s easy to imagine that I’m the only person in the world who still thinks about it regularly. It received mixed reviews, and even the critics who liked it tended to predict it would fade from memory quickly.

That I remember it so well and so fondly is perhaps just a testament to my mad crush on Tina Fey. But I also have a strong emotional response to the truths revealed in the marriage between the leads as I saw it for the first time with my then-partner with whom I had an affectionate but troubled relationship. Tina Fey and Steve Carell have believable on-screen chemistry, and honestly I think Carell especially is low-key hilarious in a lot of scenes.

Spoilers ahead.

Good Morning, Mark Ruffalo

  1. AMC raised pre-noon ticket prices to $7.00 (Bastards.)
  2. Despite the assemblage of an undeniably kick-ass cast, Now You See Me failed to rock my world
